VISIT TO ST HELENS LODGE


Gateway Lodge members journeyed to St Helens for a visit to St Helens Lodge #1999 and to participate in their annual Hay Ride and Steak Dinner.  The food and company were excellent!

2010 WIDOW'S YARD SALE


The Gateway Elks Widows held their annual Yard Sale again this year in the Lodge Park.  They invited folks from the community to have a table to sell their yard sale items and the Lodge Cronies provided hot dogs and soda.

DONATING BLANKETS TO VETS


Diana Mills, a member of Gateway Lodge #2411, created and donated 50 lap blankets to be donated through the Lodge’s Veteran’s Committee to Veterans in local VA facilities.  The blankets were presented at the annual Veteran’s Picnic held in the Lodge Park.  To date Diana has made 1409 blankets for the Veterans and 919 blankets for other Lodge charities.

GATEWAY DONATES TO USO


Gateway’s Entertainment Committee (Showtime Revue) recently staged a rollicking variety show to raise money to help support the USO (see below).  Before the last Lodge meeting in July, the committee presented a $749 check to Donald Leingang, Commander, U. S. Navy (Retired), Executive Director of the USO Puget Sound Area.

2010 NATIONAL CONVENTION


Gateway's Exalted Ruler Ralph Hartmann joined the nation's Exalted Rulers and Delegates at the Elks National Convention in Orlando, Florida July 4th thru July 8th

2010 OFFICER INSTALLATION


The installation of our officers is a dignified and respectful ceremony...up to a point!
The ER Agitation Committee struck the first blow early this year and with the help of a Trustee it all went down hill fast.

The Easter Bunny paid the Lodge a visit again this year and spread joy (and a whoie lot of chocolate eggs) around our park for the kids to enjoy!

2010 EXALTED RULER'S ROAST


Last April he was young, virile and full of life.  Now he is just a shell.  But the Past Exalted Rulers have the cure and last Thursday night they roasted him properly and, like a Phoenix from the ashes, brought him back as the new Baby PER.

2009 NEW YEAR'S PARTY


New Year's came in to a Mardi Gras theme this year. A New Orleans inspired dinner, masks, Jambalaya & Crawfish after midnight and a whole lot of dancing made for a great way to start 2010.

2009 MEMBER'S TURKEY SHOOT


And then it was the member's turn to vvie for those crazy birds!  Red tickets, blue tickets, salmon colored tickets...which one will be the lucky color and number?  All of the money goes to membership, so it doesn't really matter.  But it is always nice to walk out with a bird under your arm.

2009 WOMEN'S TURKEY SHOOT


It was ladies night for the first Turkey Shoot of the season.  Some of our younger and more "buff" male officers and members donned Chippendale type outfits to "encourage" the ladies to buy more tickets.  As usual, the crowd was enthusiastic, the turkeys plump and ready for the oven, the dinner great and the evening a big success!

2009 VETERANS PARTY


An afternoon of live music, dancing, food & drinks were provided by the Veterans Committee to honor our nation's veterans.  Our own Gateway Showtime Revue players were joined by a group of talented entertainers from Vancouver Elks Lodge #823 to provide music & songs that were very appropriate to the occasion.  Also present were the Young Marines of Vancouver, WA who depicted our soldiers in vignettes from WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam and the current conflicts.  Their showpiece was a depiction of the flag raising at Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima.
"So long as there are veterans, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them."

2009 CHARITY BALL


The theme of our annual Charity Ball this year was " A Holiday Masquerade".  A formal evening with a fantastic dinner, lively music, masks, a silent auction and beautiful people all roilled up in an elegant setting.  The proceeds of which help fund our Christmas Baskets next month in December.

VISITATION BY DIGNITARIES OF
PUMPKIN PATCH LODGE #1


Past Exalted Pumpkins Jack O'Lantern and Bumpkin Pumpkin from Pumpkin Patch Lodge #1 visited Gateway Lodge to wish our members a Happy Halloween.  They said that they heard we were having a Halloween Party and wanted to convey their felicitations.  They also added that last year their Lodge decided to bob for french fries instead of apples and that they did not recommend we do the same.

GATEWAY LODGE DONATES CHRISTMAS QUILTS TO EYE CLINIC


Member Diana Mills created 21 Christmas Quilts to be donated through the Lodge to the Elks Children's Eye Clinic in Portland.  Diana is an accomplished quilter and has created and donated through the Lodge over 1923 quilts to the patients at the Eye Clinic, patients at the Veterans Hospital, animals at the Humane Society and other institutions where the comfort of a quilt is appreciated.  Her total for this year alone is 455 blankets!

2009 ADULT PICNIC


The weather was perfect for our annual Member Appreciation Adult Picnic in the park.  Loyal Knight Paul and his crew put together a great party with free food, beer and wine.  And what a feast!  BBQ Chicken, Ribs, Burgers, Dogs, Corn, Salads, Watermelon...you name it! There were games, pony races, horseshoe pitching, croquet and a lot of good fun and socializing.

2009 ENF FUNDRAISER DINNER-DANCE


Gateway members were treated to an evening of the most spectactular display of talent and showmanship that hasn't been seen in this Lodge in many years.  The Fabulous Studio Band out of Porterville, CA transported us back to the 1940's with music of Glen Miller, Stan Kenton, Hoagy Carmichael, Jerry Herman and the like.  Chef Eric and our kitchen staff prepared an excellant dinner which was served with precision and efficiency by the Boy Scouts of Troop #606.  All proceeds from the evening went to the Elks National Foundation.

Our annual banquet to thank all of the people on our various committees for all of the magnificent work they do throughout the year and to introduce our Elk of the Year and Officer of the Year.  Also honored is our "Citizen of the Year", a member of the community, not necessarily an Elk, who has gone that extra mile to make our community a better place.

2009 EXALTED RULER ROAST


As he counts down the days before leaving office, our Exalted Ruler faces his last and greatest trial as ER...the ER Roast.  Based on a directionally-challenged moment as Leading Knight, Russ was led on a journey through scenic Tillamook to Garibaldi for crabbing - to deliver hot dogs and beer at Seaside - to convention and dance a hula in Anaheim - and finally arrive as the Baby PER!

2009 ELKETTES' CHILI COOK-OFF


Ola compadres!  Hot & Spicy Chili served up by various individuals and Lodge committees to tempt your taste buds with flavors from south of the border!  This event brings out the best chili cookers and helps raise a considerable sum for the Elkettes' Charities.

2009 ELKETTES' DISABLED DANCE


The annual Elkettes' Disabled Dance was held Friday night and more than 150 or our local physically and mentally impaired friends dropped by to dance, share in a variety of sweets and soft drinks and to enjoy entertainment provided by the Lodge's "Showtime Revue". This event each year has a special place in the hearts of our members as we get to share in the wonderful spirit and joy of our special friends.

SWEETHEARTS BALL


An evening out with your sweetheart is always special but it is even more so when you're out to a Sweethearts Ball at the Lodge.  Chef Eric and the kitchen crew outdid themselves with a terrific meal and Ghostrider rocked the house with their fine music as always.

The Past Exalted Rulers annual "All You Can Eat" Crab & Shrimp Feed was a complete success again this year.  They even served oyster shooters as a special extra!  If you walked away from this one hungry...it was your own fault!
